BIG CANNOLI GRAND OPENING
Huge hugs and many congrats to the The Big Cannoli on the opening of their second location in Market Lane, Woodbridge. Over the last couple of years I've really gotten to know owners, Val Cappelli and Dina Cosentino and am honoured to call them friends. Val, a.k.a. "Johnny Fever", and "La Dina" (WKRP tv show and northern Italian thing ..heheee) are incredibly generous people who are always ready to assist individuals, groups and charitable organizations within our city. Everyone knows they are the REAL DEAL and I wish them much success on this latest endeavour!
FALLEN WORKERS MEMORIAL
REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN 🔨⛏❤A privilege to attend the 2nd Annual Fallen Workers Memorial (IFWM) and honour those of Italian origin who perished in work-related incidents from 1900 to the present. Located at the Columbus Centre in Toronto and presented by the IFWM Committee the memorial consists of 11 columns displaying the names of over 1500 fallen. The number increases almost weekly and since there is no longer any space available on the memorial IFWM will now be including an-onsite electronic database. Many of those early migrants died in gruesome working conditions and their bodies never buried...something completely surreal for someone of my generation. Albeit a bittersweet day, it was a pleasure covering this for Panoram Italia Magazine and meeting our newly-appointed Italian Ambassador to Canada, Claudio Taffuri..Benvenuto!
JOHNNY LOMBARDI PUBLIC SCHOOL OPENING
Honouring a great Canadian! 🇵🇪👍👍 A pleasure to attend the recent official opening of Johnny Lombardi Public School...what a beautiful way to celebrate an individual who helped create the dynamic social landscape of Canada! The late Johnny Lombardi was a broadcasting pioneer who launched a radio station 50 years ago that would eventually deliver programming in 30 plus languages. A true visionary and trailblazer, he also gave voice and a platform to new Canadians. He was an advocate for racial diversity and tolerance, encouraging inclusivity and most importantly, the preservation of heritage and multiculturalism (Btw, North American studies show there is less crime in multi-ethnic communities). Therefore, it's no wonder Johnny was awarded the Order of Canada in 1981 for his contributions to society. Thank you to Trustee Linda A. Aversa for the invitation and great to see Trustee Anna DeBartolo (and her mamma!) after so long!!! And of course congratulations to JLPS Principal Angellotti, Superintendent of Schools Paul Valle and the entire Lombardi family who were fortunate to have Johnny as 'Papa'' and 'Nonno'

MAX EISEN BOOK SIGNING
THE STRONGEST HUMAN I KNOW ❤ Congrats to Max Eisen whose North-American publication, By Chance Alone, is now in its second edition with distribution across Europe. I first met Max when I interviewed him for a Holocaust piece I wrote for Fredi Magazine. He asked if I wanted to know EVERYTHING and of course I said I could "handle it." I was wrong. He told me things that to this day I've never heard him utter on a podium... because they are horrific. Arrested in Hungary with his entire family, Max entered Auschwitz at age 15 and dealt with atrocities I won't mention. His family, consisting of his parents, two brothers and a sister, were all gassed and out of 67 extended family members only he and two cousins survived. Having spent the first month with his father and uncle in the camp (later taken away for medical experiments and never seen again), Max told me the strength they gave him is the main reason he is alive today. As they were taken away his father said, ""You must LIVE...and you must tell everyone what is happening." Last words from father to son. With the average lifespan being 3 months for any Jewish prisoner, he survived and a year later was liberated by an American army platoon. Max called me to attend his latest public speaking engagement this past Sunday and there was no way I was going to miss it. Knowing Max has been a gift and I thank Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua's office for making my interview 4 years ago possible. He is one of my heroes, the greatest of teachers and I feel so incredibly blessed to call him 'friend.' His autobiography, which already has been nominated for an award and is receiving an recognition here and abroad, is being implemented in high school curriculums across the GTA. BY CHANCE ALONE can be found at Chapters Indigo 📚 ❤

Held at Pinecrest Farms and a collaboration between the York Region Cycling Coalition and Community Cycling Clubs this fun event celebrates the end of the cycling season. I'm obviously not dressed for the occasion. Nor did I ride as I had a date with a different kind of saddle hehee...🐎🤠 I did cycle close to 60k day before so I hope I'm forgiven, Frank
